Why I Created the “A Spirit-Led Guide to Homeschooling” Workbook and Course–

Ever since my home education journey began back in 2019, I’ve noticed a huge gap in the homeschool community online. While many in the Christian homeschool space would speak of the Holy Spirit being the initiator of their desire to homeschool, I didn’t see many discussing the need for the Holy Spirit in the curation process of their homeschool itself. I knew that the Holy Spirit called me to homeschool my children; but honestly, I didn’t fully trust Him to write the entire blueprint for my homeschool. In other areas of mine and my husband’s lives, we trusted the Lord to instruct us in every step. We trusted Him to lead and guide us in our tithing, our giving, our parenting, our family activities, our everyday decisions. But when it came to homeschooling, it almost felt like this was the one area I had to figure out by myself.

I immediately began to research to death everything that every homeschool mom online had ever done, exhausting myself in the process, of course. I watched a million youtube videos, stayed up late stalking instagram highlights, and read too many books to count. But even when I tried to implement what others were doing, something just felt.. off. Was I not really supposed to be homeschooling? No, that couldn’t be it. I was sure that this was a calling from the Lord. So what made our homeschool not feel like “us?” Perhaps it was because I had simply copied what I saw others doing. But how could I fully know what would work for us without experimenting for years on my children and wasting time?

I can’t exactly pinpoint when it happened; but at some point, it clicked. I hadn’t ever asked the Holy Spirit about the homeschool He wanted us to have. I hadn’t specifically asked Him to give me His plan and purposes for the very thing He called me to. I got out my journal and began asking the Holy Spirit questions. I remember asking Him questions like:

What do You want our days to look like?

What does *this specific child* need from me in this season?

What are You doing in *this specific child* in this season, and how can I partner?

How have You fashioned each child?

How can I curate my homeschool based on how you fashioned me AND them?

What are Your greatest desires for our homeschool?

How is Stephan, my husband, to be a part of this?

What are the primary areas You would have us focus on in our homeschool?

Is there something you want to show me about my childrens’ futures that would help me educate them now?

These were just some of the questions I asked, but the sky is not even the limit. Whatever I heard Him answer, I would write down. I realized as I wrote that a philosophy was forming, a very “way” of educating my children. Soon after, the Lord gave me the name, “the last days way.” The Last Days Way was simply the “way” that our family was called to live in these last days, making Him and His Kingdom the center of all we said and did.

I truly believe that the homeschooling revolution we see in America right now is because parents are taking back the role of teacher in their homes, of disciple-makers in their homes. As we prepare for Jesus’ return, we don’t have time for Babylon to be raising our children. We don’t have time to be undoing in the evening what Egypt did during the day. The time is now to train up our children, and prepare them for the soon-coming King. Soon after, thoughts started flooding of what our official homeschool name could be, and I landed on “Maranatha Academy.” “Maranatha” is the Aramaic word, which means, “Come Lord Jesus!” It represents the Church beckoning her Bridegroom King to return. There couldn’t be a name more fitting for my homeschool. Everything the Lord showed me about my homeschool was concerning preparation- preparation for the the trumpet to sound and the Son of God to come on the clouds. Everything was starting to come together.

I realized that our homeschool wasn’t just math or spelling, nor was it just “head knowledge” at all. Our homeschool existed to serve the Kingdom outpost that was to be OUR HOME. Our home would be a place where baby believers could come to get fed, where those hungry to surrender their lives could be baptized and discipled, where weary souls could come to be refreshed. Our homeschool was to be a by-product of a much, MUCH greater mission: to preach the Gospel, to make disciples, to serve the least of these and to equip the saints. My children would come along on that journey via our homeschool. What did this mean? Well, it meant that everything changed. I started writing down the “pillars” the Holy Spirit gave me for my homeschool. I purchased curriculum to align with everything He showed me.

I realized that, at large, homeschool moms and dads could be missing this opportunity to seek Him fully for His blueprint for their homeschools. I realized that I had boxed in what our homeschool was supposed to look like, instead of seeing that it was simply a facet of something so much greater: our calling as a family. And so, A Spirit-Led Guide to Homeschooling was born. I wanted to share this revelation with other believers. I wanted to see other homeschool families ignited by a Heavenly blueprint. By something more than just “school at home.”

I created a 67-page guide and 36-video online course that walks new homeschool moms through the process of vision-casting with the Holy Spirit, giving them questions and prompts to explore the unique fingerprint your family is called to have in this world, and how your homeschool could partner with that. The guide also teaches readers about some of the major philosophies of education, including Charlotte Mason, Unit Study, Classical, Montessori, Traditional and Unschooling. I invite you to select one of these philosophies only if they align with what the Holy Spirit showed you back in the vision-casting portion. I also give my top curriculum recommendations for each philosophy, and go through how to create your own philosophy if none of the pre-existing ones feel “right.” In the final section of the workbook, I go through the logistics of homeschooling: your state laws, how testing works, how to set up your daily routine, de-schooling, how to implement a morning time or a blessing hour, and more. I also give math and language arts curricula recommendations for those who need additional help in that area. My hope is that, after watching this course and working through this guide, that your family can step into exactly what Jesus is saying for your home and school. I wanted to leave no stone unturned, that you may be confident in your next homeschool year, whether this is year 1 or year 7.

If you’ve been moved by what I’ve shared here, and you too realize there’s more to homeschooling than just math and spelling, I invite you to purchase “A Spirit-Led Guide to Homeschooling.” If you purchase the course, it automatically comes with the workbook. If you decide to just purchase the workbook, that’s great too! I wanted to make it all affordable and accessible to every family no matter the budget. If I could give a “product” to the homeschooling community, this is it- one that calls us higher up and further in. I truly desire to see thousands and thousands of homeschooling families running the race that God has set before them.

This is the “why” and the heart behind the creation of “A Spirit led Guide to Homeschooling,” and my hope is that it is life-changing for your family. If you’re interested in purchasing, just click the “Shop” tab. I cannot wait to hear the testimonies and the fruit that comes from families leaning into the heart of God for their homeschools. It’s incredible to think about!

Love you all so much!
